The KEY CARD with QR code is included with every ‘ekey uno fingerprint scanner’ manufactured on or after 06/16/2021.

If you purchased your device earlier, tap on “I do not have a QR code” and follow the instructions in the ‘ekey uno app’.

The “Start” button is displayed if you have already started up an ‘ekey uno’ with the ‘ekey uno app’. The registration is carried out automatically via the “Start” button.

If you have reset the device, delete the ‘ekey uno’ in your app and perform the activation again. How do I delete an ekey device from the device overview?

If you are using several ‘ekey uno’ devices, make sure that you have selected the correct device.

If the KEY CARD is lost, the ‘ekey uno fingerprint scanner’ must be sent in. We will reset the device to the default settings and you will receive a new KEY CARD. To do this, contact our support.

Note: The smartphone that was used for the activation always saves the access data of your fingerprint scanner, so you can still connect to the device.

To connect your ‘ekey uno’ to a mobile device, follow the steps below:
  1. Make sure that your ‘ekey uno’ has been installed correctly.
  2. Download the ‘ekey uno app’ from the App Store or Google Play (keyword: “ekey”).
  3. Start the ‘ekey uno app’ and follow the instructions.
  • You have the option of connecting an existing device that has already been activated, or activating a new device.

When you reset the ‘ekey uno’ to the default settings, all authorizations are permanently deleted and the system settings are reset to their defaults. Your ‘ekey uno’ will then revert to the condition in which it was delivered to you.
You can reset the ‘ekey uno’ to the default settings in two different ways.
With the ‘ekey uno app’
  1. Connect your mobile device to the ‘ekey uno’ via WLAN.
  2. Open the ‘ekey uno app’.
  3. Tap on the “Device” symbol at the bottom.
  4. Tap on “Settings”.
  5. Tap on “Reset to default settings”.
  1. Place an administrator finger on the sensor until the light ring begins to flash.
  2. Tap the sensor repeatedly until all light segments are turned off in order to reset the network settings.
  3. Tap the sensor repeatedly until all light segments are turned off a second time in order to completely reset the ‘ekey uno’.

Flashing red

No connection to the door lock actuator

If the upper left LED segment is flashing red, the ‘ekey uno fingerprint scanner’ is not connected to the door lock actuator. Proceed as follows:
  1. Check the distance between the ‘ekey uno fingerprint scanner’ and the door lock actuator.
  2. Change the batteries for the door lock actuator if necessary.
  3. Disconnect all other connections to the door lock actuator. Only one device can be connected to the door lock actuator at any given time.

Critical battery level

If the upper left and lower right LED segments are flashing red, the battery level is critical (approx. 20%). Make sure that the rechargeable battery is at room temperature and charge it.
Illuminated red/blue

Error while storing finger

If the lower left LED segment is illuminated red and the lower right LED is illuminated blue, there has been an error while storing a finger. Proceed as follows:
  1. Place a finger on the sensor again/correctly.
  2. Clean the sensor.
  3. Dry the sensor, if wet.
  4. Check the sensor for damage.
Illuminated green/red

No access: time slot rejected/disabled user

If the upper LED segments are illuminated green and the lower LED segments illuminated red, access was denied because a user attempted to gain access outside of the assigned time slot. The user might also be disabled.
Disabled user: A user was added in the ‘ekey uno app’ and his/her fingers were stored. However, the user was set from “activeted” to “disabled” and therefore is not authorized to lock or unlock the door.

System error

If all LED segments repeatedly flash red, a system error has been identified. Proceed as follows:
  1. Reset the ‘ekey uno fingerprint scanner’ to default settings.
  2. Perform a firmware update if possible.
  3. If the error was not resolved through the steps above, get in touch with our support team or with your specialized retailer.

No authorization

If all LED segments illuminate red after finger placement, the finger in question is not authorized to lock or unlock the door. Keep in mind that the finger must be placed correctly to be recognized.
Pulsing red

Security lock: 10 failed access attempts

If all LED segments pulse red, the security lock has been activated as a result of 10 failed access attempts.
Proceed as follows:
  1. Wait 3 minutes.
  2. Place an administrator finger on the sensor.

Helpful tips for use

An ergonomically correct use of the ‘ekey uno fingerprint scanner’ is only possible at the correct mounting height (at least 110 cm). The correct mounting position facilitates placing the finger and thereby improves recognition. In general, your finger can only be recognized if it is placed correctly and the activation sensor is touched. Always store one finger from each hand, so that you can use the fingerprint scanner comfortably with either hand and to prepare for the possibility of hand injuries.The growth of children’s fingers (5 years and older) is recognized automatically. Incorrect operation will impair the function of the finger scanner.
Hold your finger straight and place it centrally in the finger recess. Do not twist the finger.
Place the joint of the front phalanx directly onto the sensor. Place your finger flat onto the finger recess in order to ensure contact with the activation sensor.
The index, middle, and ring fingers work best. The thumb and little finger supply fingerprints that are difficult to analyze.
If your fingers are frequently moist, store the images with moist fingers.
Children’s fingerprints work from approx. 5 years of age.
If your finger has very few lines due to abrasion or for genetic reasons, it will not be detected by the sensor. Clearly visible lines will make it easier to recognize.
Test newly stored fingers immediately!
To start with, rule out the most common causes of this problem:
  • The app mode on the ‘ekey uno’ is not activated.
  • The ‘ekey uno’ is outside the range of the WLAN signal.
If the ‘ekey uno’ is still not displayed in the WLAN settings, you have the option of resetting the network settings on the ‘ekey uno’.
  • Ensure that you have activated the WLAN connection in the settings for your mobile device and that you are connected to the ekey device.
  • Make sure that you are within the range of the device.
  • Make sure that the rechargeable battery for your ekey device is charged.
  • Make sure that the setting for automatically toggling to mobile data is deactivated (name varies depending on manufacturer of the mobile device; see below).
    • Apple – Wi-Fi Assist (under Settings > Mobile Data)
    • Samsung – Smart network switch (under Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi > Advanced)
    • Huawei – Wi-Fi+ (under Settings > Wireless & networks > Wi-Fi)
    • LG – Switch to mobile data (under Settings > Networks > Wi-Fi > Advanced)
    • HTC – Auto-switch to mobile network (under Settings > Wi-Fi > Advanced)
If it is not possible to connect to the fingerprint scanner, there could be a connection problem between your mobile device and the fingerprint scanner.
To start with, rule out the most common causes of this problem:
  • The ‘ekey uno’ has a weak WLAN signal
  • The WLAN password was entered incorrectly
  • Your mobile device is not supported (support from iOS 12.0, Android 7.0)
If you still cannot connect to the ‘ekey uno’, proceed as follows:
  • Restart your mobile device and then reconnect via the ‘ekey uno app’.
If your ‘ekey uno’ still does not respond, contact our support team at  https://www.ekey.net/en/support-ticket/.
You can update the ‘ekey uno’ via your mobile device.

An ekey fingerprint scanner detects the fingerprint by means of an area sensor and subsequently processes it. It compares the result with that of the biometric data extracted from the reference fingerprint image and opens the door in the event of a match. The fingerprint scanner only works correctly and reliably with the front phalanx print. Hold your finger still and in the correct position on the sensor.

Our biometric access control systems detect the characteristics (minutiae) of the fingerprint contours, compare them to the biometric information saved from the reference fingerprint image, and open the door in the event of a match.

This means that the lost device is no longer able to establish a connection to the ‘ekey uno’. Your system is protected against access by unauthorized persons once again.
Now connect your ‘ekey uno’ with another mobile device.
Store a minimum of one finger from each hand. This will mean that you can operate your fingerprint scanner with your other hand if you injure one.

Always store one finger from each hand, so that you can use the fingerprint scanner comfortably with either hand and to prepare for the possibility of hand injuries.The growth of children’s fingers (5 years and older) is recognized automatically. Make sure that you have placed your finger correctly.
In some cases, the state of the finger itself can lead to lack of recognition. The fingerprint scanner only works correctly and reliably with the papillary lines of the front phalanx. If your finger is very dry, wet, or cold, these papillary lines cannot be detected sufficiently.
If your finger is very dry:
  • If your hands are dry, it often helps to run your finger over your forehead.
If your finger or the sensor is wet:
  • Dry your finger.
  • Dry the sensor of the fingerprint scanner with a non-abrasive cloth.
If your finger is cold:
  • You can warm a cold finger by rubbing it.

Each person will have fingers that are more or less suitable. Due to its size, the little finger is usually not ideal. Larger grazes and injuries can also cause problems.
Some people have finger grooves that are too flat for genetic reasons or due to abrasion. These fingers do not provide a usable image and can therefore not be stored.

The ‘ekey uno’ is basically maintenance-free.
Clean the sensor surface of the fingerprint scanner and the fingerprint scanner itself with a damp (not wet) non-abrasive cloth. Q-tips, microfiber cloths, and glasses-cleaning cloths are suitable for this purpose. Materials containing cotton, paper towels, tissues, kitchen sponges, damp dish towels, and kitchen roll are not suitable. Use clean water without adding detergent. Treat the sensor surface with care.
In case it is necessary to disinfect the entire fingerprint scanner including the sensor, you can use aqueous, alcohol-based cleaning agents. However, these should be able to dry quickly in the sensor area. The paint on the fingerprint scanner is very resistant to conventional cleaning and disinfection agents which are left to sit for less than 10 minutes.

You need to charge the rechargeable battery when the top-left and bottom-right signaling segments light up red.
Wait until the rechargeable battery has reached room temperature again before charging it.
If the battery feels pleasantly warm to the touch, this is normal. However, if the rechargeable battery is warmer than this, remove it immediately – there is a risk of fire!
Leaking liquid, deformation, damage to the battery housing, or excessive heat are all signs that the rechargeable battery is damaged.
In this case, remove the defective battery immediately and dispose of it correctly.

The rechargeable battery needs to be charged approx. every 6 months.
High temperature fluctuations cause a loss of energy in the battery and can therefore have a negative effect on the function of your fingerprint scanner.
Wait until the rechargeable battery has reached room temperature again before charging it.
